Creating a User

Modified on Mon, 9 Sep at 2:52 PM

The Users section allows administrators to create new users in the backend with various permission levels for moderating the site's content.

Adding New Users

To add new users to the site backend, click the 'Add New User' button (see red arrow). This will present a form for creating a new user.

Required Fields

User Roles

Subscriber

  • Permissions: Read posts.
  • Limitations: Cannot create or edit posts.

Contributor

  • Permissions: Create and edit their own posts.
  • Limitations: Cannot publish their own posts or upload files. Requires an Editor or higher to publish their content. Suitable for those populating content that needs approval before publishing.

Author

  • Permissions: Create, edit, and delete their own posts. Can upload files.
  • Limitations: Cannot manage posts by others.

Editor

  • Permissions: Create, edit, and delete their own and others' posts. Can upload and manage files.
  • Limitations: Cannot change site settings or manage user roles.

Administrator

  • Permissions: Full control over the site, including content, settings, and user management.
  • Limitations: None. It is recommended to minimise the number of administrators for security reasons.

Other roles can be added by request. For example, you might have a Customer role added so a user can read posts, view products, purchase items, manage their orders, and edit their account details. Contact us if you would like to add other roles to your WordPress Installation.

Recommendations

  • Security: Limit the number of users with high-level permissions to ensure site security.
  • Content Management: Assign appropriate roles based on the user's responsibilities to streamline content management and approval workflows.
