Adding a page to a menu in WordPress is simple and can be done from the WordPress dashboard. Follow the steps below to update your site’s navigation menu.
Step 1: Access the Menus Section
To begin, go to Appearance > Menus in your WordPress dashboard.
Step 2: Select the Menu to Edit
From the dropdown menu, select the menu you wish to edit. For this example, we will edit the Primary Menu, but the process is the same for any other menu you want to modify.
Step 3: Add a New Page to the Menu
On the left-hand side, you will see a box labelled Pages. Here, you can:
- View Most Recent: Displays your latest pages.
- View All: Shows all available pages.
- Search: Allows you to search for a specific page by name.
Once you find the page you want to add, check the box next to it. Then, click the Add to Menu button.
Step 4: Organise the Menu Structure
The selected page will now appear in the Menu Structure section on the right-hand side. You can:
- Drag and Drop: Click on the page item and drag it up or down to reorder its position within the menu.
- Create Sub-Menus: Indent a page under another item to create a child (sub-menu) item.
Step 5: Save Your Changes
Once you are satisfied with the menu structure, click the Save Menu button to save your changes.
Step 6: Additional Menu Items
Aside from pages, you can also add other types of items to your menu from the left-hand side, including:
- Posts
- Categories
- Custom Post Types
- Custom Links
- Tags
Simply follow the same process of selecting and adding them to the menu.
Now that you've learned how to add a page to your WordPress menu, you can customise your site’s navigation with ease. Remember to always save your changes after editing to ensure they are reflected on your site.
